The Morning Sickness Diet

Morning sickness has long been thought of as an annoying and miserable inconvenience of pregnancy brought on by physical and hormonal changes happening in the body. However, researchers have since discovered that morning sickness is a remarkable safety mechanism pre-programmed to protect the developing fetus from potentially harmful toxins.
Studies have shown that morning sickness is most commonly triggered by dairy, meat, fat and sugar in the diet as well as other high toxin products such as cigarettes or alcohol. Many women can relate to that overwhelming wave of nausea that follows a sniff of frying bacon or the mere sight of dairy. This is more than likely because meat and diary are much higher in toxins than cereals. They are also more likely to harbour harmful bacteria than foods derived from plants. Morning sickness therefore serves the important purpose of purging potentially harmful compounds, or making sure that their intake is minimal during the fetus’ most vulnerable period – the first three months.
Of course, this may all be little consolation to the pregnant mother-to-be who is feeling green at the mere mention of cooking meat. Here are a few things you can do to help ease the discomfort of morning sickness.
  • Get to know what your food triggers are and avoid them as much as possible.
  • Get some help in the kitchen. If cooking meat makes your stomach turn, ask hubby or another helpful relative to help out with preparing some of the family meals. Otherwise, only prepare the meals that you can tolerate.
  • Ginger is great for nausea. Try sucking a small piece of crystallized ginger or slowly sipping some ginger tea.
  • Drink plenty of water to ensure that you stay hydrated.
  • Get plenty of rest and a daily dose our fresh outdoor air.
  • Eat frequent small meals instead of larger meals.
  • Opt for fruits, vegetables and carbohydrates when feeling nauseas and avoid dairy, meat, fats.
  • Use BabyNature’s Good Morning Mama to help relieve nausea and queasiness and calm the digestive system during pregnancy
